The
Red Fort This fort is not the most
beautiful one of India but in spite of that
it is really impressive
Qutab Minar: Is the highest
stone tower in India - and it's only one
of the sights to be seen in the Qutab Minar
complex. This "pillar" is 72.5
metres in height, and 14.32 metres in diameter
at the base, and 2.75 metres at the top.
It's made entirely of white marble and red
sandstone - and laid out in 5 storeys. The
marvel of this pillar, however, it's not
its size but the fine carvings that cover
it: they are all verses from the Quran.
it is believed that the first city of Delhi
was built near here
Raj Ghat: Is a green peaceful
place to visit in Delhi. It's Mahatma Ghandi's
final resting place and it's inside a quiet
well-looked after little park.
Humayun's Tomb: Delhi was
the center of the Mughal empire, and structures
from this monument-loving society are scattered
all over the city. One of the most impressive
is Humayun's Tomb, a massive mausoleum complex
dedicated to the second Mughal emperor
Lodi Gardens: This is one
place in Delhi where, once you're in the
middle of it, you don't feel like you're
in Delhi...which is quite nice (when it
all just seems like it's getting too much!)
Taj Mahal (out of Delhi): One of the eight wonders of the world, The
Taj Mahal is the most beautiful monument
built by the Mughals, the Muslim rulers
of India. Built entirely of white marble,
its stunning architectural beauty is beyond
adequate description, particularly at dawn
and sunset.
Jantar Mantar: Is quite
a bizarre place. There are a group of strange-looking
constructions in this little park - and
at first glance one would think of some
sort of modern architecture or sculpture.
